At Alive Network, we know how important wedding music is on your big day. It can evoke memories, create the mood you’re after, get a party started and be the soundtrack to the happiest day of your life. So when Gill Marshall from So Raise Your Glasses told us her musical wedding story, we thought we had to share it with you.
A Wonderful Surprise On My Wedding Day
I started my own business shortly after I married the wonderful Philip. We had been struggling like crazy finding lovely decorations and accessories for our wedding and this triggered the idea of www.soraiseyourglasses.com.
Like most people I go back through this wonderful day and recall those particularly special moments and there is one, which is so special that it makes me feel a little bit tearful when I think of it. This moment was in fact a surprise, it was the one part of the day I hadn’t planned down to the last second and it was so wonderful.
At the time of my wedding I was singing in an a capella choir, Apple County UK Chorus and loved every moment of it.
The choir was to sing in the church both to support the hymn singing and to sing two songs. The music had been chosen by myself and Philip: This Is The Moment and A Nightingale Sang in Berkley Square; two beautifully romantic pieces and so personal to us.
I said my goodbyes to the choir a few nights before the wedding and of course I was looking forward to seeing them all when I arrived in church. The morning of the wedding was hectic at home with hair and make up for five bridesmaids and various members of the family arriving. I was pretty calm, my hair and make up were done and all I needed to do was to put on my dress and shoes and I was ready.
My chief bridesmaid Sarah suddenly suggested that I pull back the curtains upstairs as there was something she wanted to show me. As I did this the wonderful sound of my choir singing rose from the garden below and there they were – all thirty five of them had managed to sneak into the back garden without me hearing a thing. My eyes filled up but I desperately tried to hold it together as I was fearful of my make-up running down my face!
They sang beautifully for about ten minutes and then walked to the church. I will never forget that moment. It was more than just the singing it was the fact that music can bring us all closer together and create unforgettable moments.
