Jennifer Moss' Perfect Party
Party Entertainment Ideas.
Mercury Computer Systems held their Christmas party on Saturday 29th January at Miller's at Glencot House, a Victorian mansion nestled at the foot of the Mendip hills in Somerset. Jennifer Moss, who organised the event, gives a glowing review of The Bespoke Victorians who she hired through Alive Network.
What party were you organising, and who was it for?
It was our annual Christmas party attended by staff and wives/partners of Mercury Computer Systems.
Where did your party take place, and why did you choose that venue?
Our party took place at Miller’s at Glencot House. A Victorian mansion nestled at the foot of the Mendip hills in Somerset. A very “different” small hotel built in grand Jacobean style with an elegantly theatrical interior and filled with antiques and ancient curiosities.
Please tell us about the entertainment you booked through Alive Network, and why you chose that artist
We booked The Bespoke Victorians because they looked a little bit different. Plus, the hotel is packed full of antiques as it is owned by Miller’s who publish the antiques’ guides, so something in the Victorian vernacular seemed appropriate.
Please tell us about the performance, and the impact it had on your event
The Bespoke Victorians did two sessions of 45 minutes. Within a very short time everyone was joining in singing, clapping and laughing. At the end of the evening they were given a standing ovation and we all felt it was the best entertainment we have ever had at our annual function. I have been organising this event for the last 11 years and during that time we have had a wide range of acts but never anything quite so much fun.
What other suppliers/services did you use, and please provide commentary on any you feel were particularly notable?
During the pre dinner champagne reception we had a silhouette cutter who provided our party of 23 people with a souvenir of the occasion. General consensus was that they were very good likenesses.
In your own words please describe the stand-out moments of the party
Music played using a bow on a saw. The song in which 7 of the male employees were wiggling their hips, to which were attached bells of different tones, conducted and led by The Bespoke Victorians. They “rang out” the accompaniment to a very funny song. This scenario is difficult to explain and just had to be seen to be appreciated. Sufficient to say everyone was in hysterics. Personally I laughed till I had tears streaming down my face.
Any pearls of wisdom you would like to extend to other party planners?
Be open as to what type of entertainment to have. I originally thought of an after dinner speaker. I am so glad I did not go down that route.
