How to choose the best lookalike act for your event
Lookalikes are a fabulous way to surprise guests at any event, as they suddenly spot a famous face providing wedding entertainment at your drinks reception, or discover that your conference awards are being handed out by one of Hollywood's greatest A-listers!
With so many celebrity impersonators to choose from, how do you choose the most suitable for your event? Here are our top tips:
1. Fit the face to the mood of your event
This is relatively easy of your event has a theme; a Daniel Craig or Sean Connery lookalike for a 007 James Bond or casino themed party, a David Beckham lookalike for a charity football match, or a Royalty lookalike to open your new premises. However, also consider the atmosphere of your event, as well as the age range present. For a relaxed, informal wedding, choose a lookalike with a comic element, such as Manuel, the hapless waiter from Fawlty Towers. For a corporate fun day with kids present, choose a well know character such as a Capt. Jack Sparrow lookalike, whereas for a corporate awards ceremony, how about a Dame Edna impersonator?
2. Do they talk the walk?
The best impersonators don't just look like their famous characters, they act, speak and move like them too. This is incredibly skillful and much harder than it may appear, as they need to know exactly how David Brent would react meeting the CEO of a big company, or exactly what Marilyn Monroe would say to your gran! So, when booking a lookalike for an event where they need to interact with guests, such as a wedding drinks reception, make sure they are happy to 'work the room' in character.
3. Do they offer speeches in character?
It's a fabulous surprise for wedding guests or conference delegates when the surprise guest speaker turns out to be a very famous face indeed! Most are happy to read a pre-written speech in character, but always provide them with a professional PA system and microphone, so they can be heard and the accuracy of their portrayal fully appreciated.
4. Entertaining shows
Some top impersonators offer a stand-alone show in celebration of their famous persona, when they can dress, sing, talk and entertain as their character. After 'meeting' a celebrity, it's terrific fun for the audience to see just how far the impersonator can go towards creating that authentic experience onstage too. (Remember, many tribute acts and tribute bands offer similar entertainment if you don't need to meet the 'stars' in person.)
5. Two for the price of one
Some impersonators offer more than one character in an evening, so you can offer your guests a variety of experience. Charles Hazlett, for example, offers a wacky combination of Manuel the waiter for the drinks reception and Prince Charles for a wedding speech! You can also book more than one lookalike, of course.
At Alive Network, we've got some of the best UK impersonators, but if you can't see the person or character you'd like, just give our team and call an we'll find them for you if we can!
