U2’s tribute band, aptly named U2-2, brought in the crowds to Meadowhall Shopping Centre yesterday, in the build up to the legendary band’s sell-out gig at Don Valley Stadium: the penultimate night of the European 360 degree tour.
Fans flocked to Meadowhall to hear the tribute band, billed on the recent Blackberry 360 nationwide tour. The tribute band, headed by local lads Frank and Luke wowed the crowd with U2’s international acclaimed hits including Beautiful Day; I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For and With or Without You.
Kate Allatt, Business Development Manager at Out of Town Leisure Group Ltd , which owns The Lounge Restaurant, Mamma Amalfi & The French Café restaurants in Meadowhall commented: “We served 25% more customers yesterday as U2 pre-concert goers and fans visited Meadowhall to enjoy a bite to eat, while enjoying the music and listening to the next best thing! Meadowhall restaurant favourites including Zizzi, Pizza Express and Mamma Amalfi offered prime seats for watching U2-2, and it was great to be part of the action.”

"Even better than the real thing? Maybe not, but they were pretty good, and the popularity of this tribute act at Meadowhal this morning made one thing clear; U2 fever has well and truly come to town." "So for people like me who aren't lucky enough to have a ticket (to the 360 degree tour), at least I've still got a taste of what's on stage tonight."

Even better than the real thing
OMG!!!!!! I can't believe what's happened this afternoon!!!!
I went to meet my friend from Nottingham at Meadowhall shopping centre and we met in this cafe at the the food court called the Oasis. There was a U2 tribute band playing and we were sat about 30 feet away. I could see the people gathered round watching the band but couldn't see the band themselves because they were behind a wall. They were really good and just sounded like the real thing. They did all the hits and played for about an hour and a quarter.
As I left Meadowhall and got on the tram I noticed that the traffic was really bad and mentioned it to the girl sat next to me. She said 'Oh yeah it's 'cos U2 are playing at the Don Valley Stadium tonight! OMG! It suddenly dawned on me and I asked her if it really was U2 playing in the Oasis this afternoon. She told me it was!!!
I can't believe I was sat about 30 feet away all afternoon and I never bothered to look around the wall!!!!
Well you never in a million years expect U2 to play a gig at your local out of town shopping centre do you!!!
