Tropical Strings

The UK’s only all-Latin string ensemble, Tropical Strings specialises in playing light classical music from Latin America, South America and the Caribbean.

Challenging the norms of the classical string quartet, Tropical Strings plays repertoire that fuses popular and traditional Latin and Caribbean sounds with the elegant setting of the classical string quartet. Performing pieces by some of the most celebrated composers in classical Latin music, the group often works alongside some of the most influential Latin composers and arrangers of today to bring new commissions and bespoke arrangements of well-known popular songs.

With a vast repertoire which spans from traditional Cuban Danzones, Argentine Tangos and Mexican Boleros all the way to arrangements of Buena Vista Social Club, Santana and Ricky Martin, Tropical Strings live sets are varied, fun and unique!

Meet The Musicians
Juan Carlos, Principal Violin.
Originally from Mexico, Juan Carlos played for many years in the Philharmonic Orchestra of Boca del Rio and was the second concert master of the world-famous chamber group, Camerata del Nayar. He moved to London in 2020 to complete a Master of Art at Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance and has since gone on to play with the BBC Concert Orchestra and the London Choral Sinfonia.

Naomi, Second Violin.
Naomi spent many years in Mexico City, working with producers and artists such as Live Sessions Mexico and Latin Grammy-nominated Vladimir Suárez. Since moving to London, Naomi has completed a Performance Master’s degree at Trinity Laban School of Music and Dance and is expanding her work as a sought-afer session and events violinist playing for clients such as ITV, Toyota and Premier League Productions.

Bruno Quezada, Cello.
Born into a Mexican family, Bruno moved to Canada at an early age. After completing his studies at the British Columbia University, he began working regularly with the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra and the Vancouver Metropolitan Orchestra. He gave numerous solo recitals and was awarded the Silver medal in the Barbara Pentland Award for outstanding performance. In 2023 Bruno successfully auditioned to the Royal Academy of Music where he now is completing his Masters Degree in Orchestral Performance.

Maria, Viola.
From Holguin, Cuba, Maria studied at the prestigious Conservatorio de Musica Jose Maria Ochoa from age seven. Moving to Havana, Maria played with Camerata Romeu, Cuba’s leading all-female chamber ensemble. With the group Maria would tour Europe and America and record multiple CD’s. In 2019 Maria moved to London and has since toured extensively with the Novello Orcehstra, Senbla concert orchestra and has performed as part of Mariachi Las Adelitas for Latin super stars, Ana Gabriel and Los Tigres Del Norte.
