About Golden Jazz

Golden Jazz is a London-based jazz vocalist known for her distinctive, soulful voice, often compared to the legendary Nina Simone, Cleo Laine, and Diana Krall. Her deep, rich timbre brings a unique warmth to every performance, captivating audiences across the UK and beyond.

Performing regularly at esteemed jazz venues in London and Greater London, Golden Jazz has graced the stages of The National Portrait Gallery, The Spice of Life, The National Theatre Foyer, The Octave, Ray’s Jazz at Foyles, JAZZ7 at Hugo’s, Pizza Express (Maidstone), and The Stables at Wavendon.

With a career spanning over seven years, she has collaborated and recorded with some of London’s top jazz musicians, many of whom contributed to her second album, Wonderous Visions. Released on March 6, 2012, at Leicester Square Theatre, this album reimagines Stevie Wonder’s classic hits from the 1970s, along with select pieces from other eras and an original composition co-written with pianist Steve Lodder.

Tours & International Performances

In May and June 2012, Golden Jazz embarked on a UK tour promoting Wonderous Visions, performing at The Met (Bury), Matt & Phreds (Manchester), The Lescar (Sheffield), Square Chapel Theatre (Halifax), and St. Ives Jazz Club (Cornwall). The tour received widespread acclaim, drawing enthusiastic audiences nationwide.

She has also performed at prestigious international jazz festivals across the UK and Ireland, including Glasgow, Derry, and Sligo, as well as at venues in Scotland, Wales, Ireland, Italy, and Malaysia.

Her debut album, Wishful Thinking, co-produced with pianist Simon Wallace, was released in May 2008 alongside a successful Jazz Services-funded tour, kicking off at The National Portrait Gallery in London.

Early Musical Journey

Born and raised in Belfast, Northern Ireland, Golden Jazz’s passion for jazz was sparked by the world-class musicians who played at her late father’s renowned music venue, The Bridge, during the early-to-mid 1990s. Hosting local and international jazz greats such as Paul Dunmall, Jean Toussaint, and Hugh Fraser, the venue became the backdrop for her deep appreciation of jazz and the beginning of her journey as a vocalist.

Critical Acclaim

"Belfast-born, London-based singer Golden Jazz’s second album, a heartfelt homage to Stevie Wonder, is remarkable… it is a measure of her achievement here that she brings something new to the songs... she proves that she has something profound to say about Wonder’s wonderful songs."
Cormac Larkin, The Irish Times (June 2012)

"Golden Jazz’s fine tribute presents a superb cross-section of classic Wonder songs… her wonderfully rich timbre and warm vibrato bring out the lyrical richness of slower material. If you haven’t heard Golden Jazz yet, Wonderous Visions should definitely be on your wish list."
Peter Quinn, Jazzwise (May 2012)

"A deep well of bittersweet Irish blues in her voice... delivers 10 Stevie classics with real feeling and laid-back elegance. Visions, Big Brother, and Too High are particularly fine, and her own song, Timeless, is a neat overview of her mentor’s career."
Jack Massarik, The London Evening Standard (March 2012)

“The first thing that strikes you when listening to this debut album from Belfast-born, London-based Vocalist Golden Jazz is her lustrous timbre. Sounding like the forgotten lovechild of Joni Mitchell and Terry Callier - seamlessly combining the liquid phrasing of the former with the soulful sonorities of the latter - Murphy's captivating tone really draws the listener into the song. This impressive debut should help to put this affecting singer well and truly on the map. Peter Quinn, JAZZWISE, (October 2007). ”
